It was a truth that Rory Mesland was a bookworm. She read books whenever she had free time, and kept books out longer than they should be kept out for. She really liked original fiction the best, but the occasional historical fiction intrigued her as well. Why? She absolutely loved to hear about the past. Especially if she could find books about humans past, before the vampire take over. She had gotten her siblings into reading more intellectual stuff, hoping that they know that there was more to life than just working for vampires. But, she doubted that they would ever be able to see more than that in their lifetime. She found it sad, because she believed that she wasn’t going to ever get out of the house she lived in now either. It was sad to think so, but there wasn’t much else she could think. Being a slave was in her blood, and it was how her father died.
She walked down the length of the library, her finger scanning the spines of the book that were on the shelves beside her. She stopped on a book that sounded interesting and pulled it off the shelf. It was entitled Blue is for Nightmares, and it was encoded with this fancy script. She looked through the pages. It wasn’t exactly a thick book, but it wasn’t one that wouldn’t take a few hours to finish either. She didn’t have a few hours though, she only had one. She opened the book up to the first page. ‘They’re always the same. Always at night, in the forest, looking for Drea. The sound of his body lurking somewhere behind me. Branches breaking. Leaves crackling. Wind whirring in my ears, watering my eyes. And the pain in my stomach --- sharp, raw, scathing. Real.’ the first paragraph read. The book seemed interesting enough, and so she read on. She kept her voice to a low whisper as she read out loud, but it was only loud enough that she could hear, or at least she thought. She wasn’t exactly sure what the vampires could hear anymore.
She read the first few pages with ease. She knew that this book was going to be a good one, but there was no way she could finish it here. Taking it home wasn’t an option either. She never had time to read anymore. Either it was vampires or children she had to take care of. And because she didn’t have the time to read it, it always came back late, and she didn’t want that to happen. However, without hesitating on that thought anymore than she already had, she kept on reading. She didn’t know how she would end this book once she was up and gone out of this place, but she knew that she would have to at some point, it was just too good a book to put down.

STEFAN DAMIEN SALVATORE! the tiredness was evident in his eyes. stefan salvatore hadn't slept for a few nights, and it was wearing him out. it wasn't because he was working. no, he was actually having like a holiday type thing, while the other humans were slaves. no, he was tired because he had stayed up with the cullens, and got only a couple hours sleep in the last four nights. even though he was really tired, stefan couldn't sleep. the unconsciousness that was so familiar to every human, would not envelope, and free him, no matter how much he tried. so he decided to come to the library, to get a book that would bore him to sleep, or a book that he would be interested in, and just read 'till he fell asleep.
stefan wasn't a person that enjoyed reading that much, it was only that he had nothing better to do, he was tired of doing nothing also. as he entered the library, it was really quiet. so little people were there, most of them were working, and who knew at what time they would get a break. he felt guilty. being a human that had to do no slavery what so ever, was just unfair to other people, not that he would wish he was a slave. he just wished that there would be no slaves in the world at all, that would be so much better, so much happier. the times were so dark these days, and he didn't like it. he wanted freedom for people like him, he wanted the world to be back the way it was ten odd years ago.
he had reached the bookshelves now. stefan ran a hand through his battered hair, and looked at the titles in front of him. they were fiction, and he could not stand romance. he moved along a couple of steps, looking at the other titles. he picked up a book at random and looked inside. he read a couple of words, it didn't seem as intriguing as it should. then, stefan came across a girl reading aloud from the book in her arms. that book sounded interesting, it really did. he walked up to the female, his lanky build towering over her. 'are there any more of that book?' he asked, with a little smile, his deep green eyes having no light in them. this world was just too cruel for him to be happy.

Rory kept her eyes on the book for a while. Some of the words didn’t even comprehend in her mind, but she had some idea what was going on. The main character, whom she found out to be Stacey, was performing some sort of spell with a candle. She had carved the letters D.O.E.S in them, but she was unsure what they meant. She didn’t know how she could read out loud and not comprehend what she was saying. Nor could she understand the fact that she wanted to read this book, and she couldn’t even concentrate. It was just difficult, she guessed, since she knew that she only had an hour to actually do things before she had to go back home to her ‘family’, which really was only half of her family. But that didn’t matter anyway, what happened in the fast was done, and she had to stop dwelling on it.
The petite girl didn’t hear anyone come up from behind her. So, this would mean that she jumped a little when she heard a masculine voice from behind her. “Are there any more of that book?” the voice asked. She turned around to face him, almost closing the book on her self, but managing to catch the page before that happened. She grabbed a bookmark from where someone left it on the table and through it in the spot. “You scared me,” she managed to choke out. It was really quiet though, and she wasn’t sure if he had even heard her. She hoped so, since socializing with other people that weren’t her friends and family was extremely hard for her.
She thought for a moment though, back to the bookshelf that she had been to. She wasn’t sure if there was another one. She knew the other three books in the series had been sitting there, but she didn’t think there was another one of Blue is for Nightmares. “I don’t think so,” she said to him, “but you can look over there.” Her small finger pointed over to the bookshelf that she had been at not too long ago. She hoped that there was another one for the boy. It seemed intriguing, but she knew that she couldn’t concentrate at the moment, even though she wanted to so much. She bit her lip softly as she waited for the boy to either go look for the book, or to respond with anything, just to ease her nerves.

STEFAN DAMIEN SALVATORE! he took a step back as the girl jumped. he didn't realize that he could have scared her, but when he thought about it, he really did. stefan sighed, 'i'm sorry.' he said with a small smile, 'i didn't mean to make you jump.' he explained. to be honest, stefan wouldn't like it either if someone came from the back and scared the hell out of him. he waited as the girl got back her balance, and gave her an apologetic look. he awaited the answer to his startling question.
he was curious about the book in her hands, he didn't even know the title. 'do you mind if i see the title?' he asked, reaching for the book in her hand, avoiding her skin. he was weird like that, just a habit that may seem quite rude sometimes, but unintentional. his green eyes roamed over the cover of the book, he memorized the title and went too look for the title. he ran his hand along the titles on the dusty books on the shelve that the girl has pointed him to. he scanned the titles, noticing that that particular title was missing, and he let out a slow breath. bugger, he was looking forward to reading that book, which to be honest was kind of weird for him since stefan didn't like reading.
'it wasn't there, but thank you anyway.' he said, he didn't want to go back to doing nothing, so he thought about what to say next to the girl. conversation was the best thing of keeping yourself from boredom, 'i'm stefan.' he said, struggling to find something else to say, so he stayed quiet, while in the process thinking if the girl was a slave, and were her owners treating her all right. it wasn't something he would ask though, because he knew that some humans didn't like talking about their experiences with their owners.

Rory didn’t know why she was so shy today. It wasn’t like she had something to wait for when she got home. She was lucky though. The Koehn vampire didn’t hurt her like her last ones she worked for did. Unfortunately, that’s how she lost her father, but that wasn’t something to think about. The boy behind her looked at the cover of the book, she didn’t exactly hear what he said to her, and so she was kind of surprised that he was reaching over her. It was less of a shock, however, to see that he had looked at the cover of the book. She watched as he left, and she continued reading, though what was happening in the book was a complete blur to her.
A few moments later, the boy returned. She felt bad that he couldn’t get a book since she was trying to read it. But, she knew that it would just go back on the shelf and she felt bad that she was keeping him from checking it out. “Do you want it?” she asked, “I’m not checking it out anyway…” She put the book down in front of him, offering him to take it. She had no idea what was going on anyway, so it was fine with her if he wanted it. She only wished she had time to bring a book home.
“I’m Rory,” she replied to him. She smiled politely at him and folded her hands in front of her. There were little scars from where she would play with her brother and things got a little rowdy. It wasn’t like her brother was out to get her or anything, but with no one to play with, he always seemed to get bored. While she wasn’t working, that’s where she would spend her spare time. She was basically a mom, and she was okay with that since they never got one. Rory, however, never seemed like the type to act like a tomboy. The way she was dressed now definitely didn’t show anyone of her tomboy side. But she was when it came to her brother, and she was proud that she could hide it.
